Thanks to our struggle heroes, today we can utter ‘us’ in reference to black, white, coloured, Indian and the other races that make South Africa.
Apartheid has done disfavour to the progress of South Africans, more especially to blacks. Undeniably, apartheid was about economics, favouring one race and brutalising others.
Post 1994, we have worked hard to achieve ‘us’ in reference to all races of South Africa. Social programmes and economic programmes were devised to rid the harm that apartheid and colonialism had endorsed.
Of importance in building South Africa is not only ‘bringing us together’ and affirmative empowerment, but mainly forward peering economic development models and innovations. Affirmative empowerment can’t thrive outside holistic economic growth. Black economic empowerment through government tenders should not, as it is, disrespect private South African economic growth.
Blacks, whites, Indian, coloured, Chinese and other races of South Africa need to work towards conceiving and producing owned economic products, which the outer world will envy and hence consume.
Apartheid took from South Africa and Africa an opportunity to add and as well advance broad human civilisation. Apartheid gave privilege to whites; as we even see it today, white businesses are a niche that’s equipped to move broadly to economically serve black communities at large
We stuck in a situation where mechanisms of creating employment are neglected, leading to an education system that has no one to answer to, yet employment is crucial to the well being of our people.
Today, commitment to imparting progress has been compromised by unaccountability, greed, poor leadership ethics, cadre interests taking precedence of the greater all, conflicting wealth seeking, dry minds for progress, problem deniers, non-delivery of promises and unqualified deliverers.
Today our leaders are refusing accountability for the digression that the country is experiencing; citizens are crying out-loud everyday through countless protests and litigations.
Entrepreneurship and funding models
The world is value based. Almost all the instruments we use i.e. computers, clothes, transport, software, magazines, movies; are so because of entrepreneurial venturing. Who are we to think we will make it, create employment; without putting both our hands on innovative venturing and entrepreneurship.
Culture and economics
With all the cultures that we have adopted; thanks and no thanks to colonialism/apartheid; culture in consumables, culture in religion; the non realised part is that we are supporting economic venturing of other nations.
This leads to saying, as soon as we turn attention on our cultures, we will prosper economically.
South Africa is rich with indigenous cultures, this we know very well. Some cultures we love and some we try to ignore in favour of urbanisation.
Governance
We need and deserve a government that thinks innovatively and acts with commitment to lead the country to success. Success in our case being very imperative as it includes ridding the country of poverty and illiteracy, and therefore human rights exploitation.
Accountability is the start, consistent strengthening of controls is what follows.
Solutions.
You and I are the solution.
Personally, I’m scared of the condition the country is in. But it helps not just being frightened; I have offered my efforts to a few initiatives.
One of the initiatives is a political party called SAY Party (South African Youth Party), founded by me and associates. We are still in the works with few details, check us out here: www.twitter.com/SA_youthparty, SAyouthparty1@gmail.com and
www.facebook.com/SAYouthParty. I’m sure you can lend a hand.
