·       3D-printed bones for reconstructive middle ear implants

Professor Mashudu Tshifularo and his team used 3D-printed bones for reconstructive middle ear implants in 2019 at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital.

·       Joule electric car

Country: South Africa

Innovation

Joule was a South African electric vehicle made by Optimal Energy. It was meant to have a driving range of 150 KM at a top speed of 135 KM/H.

It was never released commercially.

Optimal Energy shut down the project in 2012.

·       Akoin

Country: Senegal

Innovation

Akoin is a cryptocurrency co-founded by the Senegalese-American R&B singer Akon in 2017, alongside Jon Karas and Lynn Lisa.

Akoin (AKN) started trading on Bittrex Global crypto exchange in November 2020.

Akoin is marketed to be the central currency of Akon City, a futuristic city project championed by the musician in Senegal.
